What is the Zaydi view regarding reciting Amîn after the Sūra Fâtiha in the prayer?

The School of Ahl al-Bayt denies the validity of reciting Amîn after the Fâtiha. We will quote the statement of our imams regarding this issue.

I.                     Imam Zayd bin ‘Ali bin al-Hussein bin ‘Ali bin Abi Tâlib, upon them be peace:

1.        It is narrated in Musnad Imam Zayd that when Imam Zayd, upon him be peace, was asked about reciting Amîn after the Fâtiha, he said: ((Verily, we the Ahl al-Bayt do not recite it. I object to it)).

II.                   Imam Ahmed bin ‘Isa bin Zayd bin ‘Ali bin al-Hussein bin ‘Ali bin Abi Tâlib, upon them be peace:

1.        Hâfiž Muhammad bin Manŝūr al-Murâdi said in Amali Ahmed bin ‘Isa that when he asked Imam Ahmed bin ‘Isa, upon him be peace, about reciting Amîn after the Fâtiha, Imam Ahmed indicated that one is not supposed to say it.

2.        Ash-Sharîf al-Hasani narrated in Al-Jâmi’ al-Kâfi: “Ahmed [bin Isa], al-Qâsim [bin Ibrâhîm], and Muhammad [bin Manŝūr al-Murâdi] all agreed that one does not say Amîn in the prayer.”

III.                 Imam al-Qâsim bin Ibrâhîm bin Ismâ’îl bin Ibrâhîm bin al-Hasan bin al-Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Tâlib, upon them be peace:

1.        Imam al-Hâdi ila al-Haqq Yahya bin al-Hussein, upon him be peace, said in his al-Ahkâm: “My father related to me on the authority of his father [i.e. Imam al-Qâsim ar-Rassi] that when he was asked about reciting Amîn in the prayer, he said: ((It is preferable to me that you not say it)).”

2.        Ash-Sharîf al-Hasani narrated in Al-Jâmi’ al-Kâfi: “Imam al-Qâsim, upon him be peace, said—as is reported on the authority of Dâwūd—((We do not approve of the statement Amîn [meaning in the prayer])).”

IV.                 Imam Yahya bin al-Hussein bin al-Qâsim bin Ibrâhîm bin Ismâ’îl bin Ibrâhîm bin al-Hasan bin al-Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Tâlib, upon them be peace:

1.        Imam al-Hâdi Yahya bin al-Hussein, upon him be peace, said in his al-Ahkâm regarding the recitation of Amîn after al-Fâtiha: ((I have never seen any of the scholars of Progeny of Allah’s Messenger, peace be upon him and his progeny, say that; nor have I heard that from them)).

V.                   Imam al-Hasan bin ‘Ali bin al-Hasan bin ‘Ali bin Umar bin ‘Ali bin al-Hussein bin ‘Ali bin Abi Tâlib, upon them be peace:

1.        Al-Qâži Zayd said in Sharh at-Tajrîd that Imam Nâsir al-‘Utrūsh al-Hasan bin Ali, upon him be peace, was asked about reciting Amîn while he was in Daylâm (Persia), and he said: ((This is something that the Progeny of Allah’s Messenger, peace be upon him and his progeny, did not hold to or do. According to them, it is an innovation (bida’))).

2.        Imam Nâsir al-‘Utrūsh al-Hasan bin Ali, upon him be peace, said in Al-Ihtisâb: ((It is upon the one accountable to take the flag of Ahl al-Bayt…avoid saying Amîn…)).

VI.                 Imam al-Murtaža Ahmed bin Yahya (d. 840 AH), upon him be peace:

1.        Imam al-Murtaža Ahmed bin Yahya, upon him be peace, said in his book Al-Bahr az-Zakhkhâr: ((The Prophet’s Descendants all agree: Reciting Amîn is an innovation)).

VII.               Imam al-Mu’ayyad Billah Ahmed bin al-Hussein bin Hârūn bin al-Hussein bin Muhammad bin Hârūn bin Muhammad bin al-Qâsim bin al-Hasan bin Zayd bin al-Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Tâlib, upon them be peace:

1.        Imam al-Mu’ayyad Billah Ahmed bin al-Hussein, upon them be peace, said in Sharh at-Tajrîd: ((It is not permissible to say Amîn after the recitation of al-Fâtiha…This is the teaching (madhhab) of all of Ahl al-Bayt…We hold it to be the consensus of Ahl al-Bayt)).
