As salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatu Llah !

I have some questions about this subject :

1) Is it valid to pay zakat al-fitr before the aid al-fitr and after this day ?
2) If there is a guest who lives in my house during the aid al fitr, do I have to pay his zakat al-fitr ?
3) Is it lawful to give money to the poor as a zakat al-fitr ? If yes, must he buy food with this money or can he buy everything he wants ?

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

Thank you for your question!
1. It is valid to pay the zakat al-fitr a day befoe the Eid however it is preferable to pay on the morning of the Eid until the evening.
2. You are to pay the Zakat al-fitr on your behalf and any dependents in your family (wife and children) as well as any slaves you may own.
3. According to Imam al-Hadi (as) in his Al-Ahkaam, the sadaqa al-fitr is to be paid in foodstuffs. Only in the case where the foodstuffs are not available is one permitted to pay it in money.

And Allah knows best!

Thank you for your answer ! And for the third question, should the poor absolutely buy food with the money or not ?

The poor person is free to do whatever they want with the money. But the underlining idea is that the person should buy food to celebrate the Eid.

And Allah knows best!
