ASA,

I hope that you're well. 3 questions for you, Sidi:

1) Is the Zaydi ruling on fasting to start when the hilaal is sighted anywhere in the world or in one's locality.

2) Is there a hadeeth in our kutub which prohibits urinating while standing?

3) What's the answer to Sunnis about their claim that Imam Ali (AS) sent Imam Hasan (AS), Imam Husayn (AS) & Muhammad ibn al-Haneefah (RA) to defend Uthmaan when the Muslims laid seige on him?

JAK,
WAS.

Alhamdulillah! All is well!

Let's get to your questions.

1) The Zaydi ruling is that the hilal must be sighted locally. If you don't sight it, you can accept the testimony of a just witness who saw it. There is even a report in Kitaab al-Azhar (I believe) or one of the commentaries in which it is stated that if two people are in the same locality, and one person saw the hilaal and the other person didnt, the one who saw the hilaal fasts and the one who didn't doesnt.

2) Yes. In the book Kitaab al-Minahi by Imam Muhammad Murtaza (as) the son of Imam al-Haadi (as), he narrates a hadith on the authority of his ancestors that the Prophet (sawas) prohibited urinating while standing up.

3) Sending his sons to protect 'Uthmaan is not an endorsement from 'Ali (as) for 'Uthmaan or his caliphate. It just testifies to the sublime character of Amir al-Mumineen (as) that he would send his sons to protect someone who violated Islamic protocol.

Hope this answers your questions.

And Allah knows best!
