Imam Nafs-az-Zakiyah (as) & Imam Mahdi was created by Rationalist

Salaam

There is a narration in Maqatil At Talibeen where Abdullah bin Hassan (as) tells Imam Jafar (as) to give bayah to his son Imam Nafs-az-Zakiyah (as), and declares him to be the Mahdi. Does this mean he believed Imam Nafs-az-Zakiyah (as) was Imam Mahdi(as)?

Thanks for your question! Yes, there was the prevalent belief among many Zaydis and others during the time that Imam Muhammad Nafs az-Zakiyya (as) was the promised Mahdi. He fit much of the criteria of the Mahdi (as), such as name, description and function.
