Born in tenth century Medina to a scholarly family who trace their lineage toProphet

Muhammad, Imam al-Hādi ila al-Haqq (Tr. "Guide to the Truth")
Yahya bin al-Hussein served as the first Imam of Yemen. He sought to revive
the teachings and practices of his noble forbears and formulated numerous
works on theology, jurisprudence, exegesis, and so forth. In his short treatise
"The Fundamentals of the Religion", he highlights those basic beliefs that are
obligatory upon the Muslim to hold to.

This translation and commentary is the first of its kind in that it presents the
treatise of al-Hādi in the English language and provides a detailed
commentary drawing upon those sources held as authoritative by the
Generality of the Muslims.

Amidst the storms of sectarian bias and violence that prevail in these times,
Muslims of any extraction can appreciate the views of Imam al-Hādi
presented in this text. Avoiding the charges of extremism or heresy, he
establishes his arguments with succinct and clear evidence. Even non-
Muslims interested in early Islamic theological development will appreciate
the arguments presented in this piece.

We at the Imam Rassi Society seek to translate and disseminate those works
of Imam al-Hādi, as well as that of his ancestors, descendants, and others, in
order to revive the spirit of open discourse and fruitful discussion amongst the
Muslim community and disintegrate the parochialism that has hindered our
cultural development. We also aim to highlight the intellectual legacy of those
scholars and imams of the Prophet's Progeny and their contributions to
Islamic theology, law, and philosophy.
