Asalamu Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu
I just wanted to ask if us Zaydis believe that Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman ran away from the battle of Uhud and/or any other battles?
Thank you for your time.

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh!
Thank you for your question! The books of history differ as to the identity of those Companions who remained with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny, in the Battle of Uhud. Regardless, according to all historical accounts, Imam 'Ali, upon him be peace, is identified as one who remained. Therefore, I would say that, according to the Zaydiyya, knowing the identity of who remained is more important than knowing the identity of those who fled.
And Allah knows best!

I asked because I am aware of the Sunni and Ja’fari positions on this issue and wanted to what the Zaydiyyah’s stance on the matter is.

as-salamu alaikum brother zulfiqar,
you have always interesting questions.
there are many matters which are in essence not important for the religion of islam. many of these things are about history or other subjects which are indeed interesting subjects but nevertheless not important for beeing a good muslim in itself. These are matters like the knowledge on which person was where exactly and what did they do exactly and so forth.
This question is a good example, so the imamis discuss these matters because it is very central for their theology that some of the sahabah werent good people. as for the sunnis, they build their history around the idea of certain adalah and almost masum like reverence of the sahabah in general. so both of these denominations need to discuss these matters especially because they challenge each other on this question.
As for zaydis in general they dont care much about this questions cause they orientate themselves around the fact that the ahl al bayt didnt show animosity to the shaykhayn. maybe they did do wrongful things, maybe they even sinned but islam is a religion of rahmah and the door of tawbah is always open so it doesnt matter for our believe if they fled or if they didnt, not every one was a warrior like Hamza alayhi salam, or Amir al-Muminin Ali alayhi salam or al-Zubayr.
Well Ali was even counted by the arab historians as one of the jababeer (unparalleled warrior-heroes) of the arabs. so it is quit unfair to compare other people with him.
