The age of Aisha - Sayyid al-ʿAllāma Muḥammad b. ʿAbdullāh

Q : Did the messenger of Allāh ‎ﷺ marry ʿĀʾisha when she was nine years old?

A : It is likely that the narrators themselves exaggerated regarding the young age of ʿĀʾisha when the Prophet ‎ﷺ married her, they would [seek to] highlight that as a form of virtue for her above the other wives of the Prophet ‎ﷺ. It is no doubt that the Prophet ‎ﷺ married her at a young age while she was still a maiden.

However, when it comes to specifying her age to be nine years old, we consider that it is likely to be from among the exaggerations of the narrators, due to it being contrary to the common customs during that time and throughout history - except for rare exceptions. For, it has not been narrated that the Prophet ‎ﷺ wed any of his daughters at such an age.
