Wa ʿAlaykum al-Salām!

Muʿāwiyah is the enemy of Allāh and His Messenger.

His saying (al-ʿāmirī): The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: ((He who curses one of my companions, the curse of Allāh, the Angels, and the people in their entirety is upon him. Allāh will not accept any of their deeds)).

al-Imām Majd al-Dīn al-Muʾayyadī said:

I say: Know that Muʿāwīyah, ʿAmr b. al-ʿāṣ, al-Mughīra b. Shuʿba, and their ilk are the first to be counted in this Prophetic curse.

This is because they have committed the greatest of cursing, they have cursed the foremost of his companions; Amīr al-Muʾminīn, and the brother of the Trustworthy Messenger ﷺ by admission of the consensus of the Ummah.

Rather, they established his cursing upon the pulpits. Therefore, they are the first from among those intended by this promise, and its like.

How astounding it is for one to claim the Sunnah, and intends to defend the likes of them by recording a promise of chastisement which refers to them! - those who are the first to be intended by it, and are included in it - to those who he has mentioned.

This is truly a great injustice, and astounding aberration. Therefore, reflect, O equitable believer: {And whoever Allah does not bless with light will have no light!} [24:40]. And to Allāh do matters return.

His saying: A man said to al-Muʿāfa b. ʿUmrān: What of ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, and Muʿāwīyah? So, he became angry and said: No one is comparable to the companions of the Prophet! Muʿāwīyah is his companion, in-law, scribe, and his trustworthy upon the revelation of Allāh, the Mighty, the Exalted)).

I say: Praise be to Allāh, how astounding is it for one to claim knowledge, and claim to follow the Sunnah. Yet, speaks with such deceitful language which serves nothing of the truth.

He intends to oppose the Book of Allāh, the Exalted, and the Sunnah of His Prophet ﷺ. So, we say:

Muʿāwīyah is the enemy of Allāh, the Exalted, and the enemy of His Messenger, as per his saying ﷺ to ʿAlī (upon him be peace) in the mass-transmitted report: ((O Allāh be a supporter of he who supports him, an enemy to he who is an enemy of him, and a giver of victory to he who aids him)).

Muʿāwīyah is a Munāfiq (hypocrite), due to his saying ﷺ in the known report which is accepted by consensus: ((Only a believer loves him, and a Munāfiq despises him)).

Muʿāwīyah is the chief of the rebellious ones who calls to the hellfire, by his saying ﷺ to ʿAmmār: ((The rebellious group will kill you, you will call them to paradise, and they will call you to hellfire)), [per] the mass-transmitted Prophetic report.

Muʿāwīyah is the murderer of ʿAmmār b. Yāsir, Ḥujr b. ʿAdī, and the thousands upon thousands of the believer, and Allāh, the Exalted, has said: {And he who slays a believer wilfully his reward is Hell, where he will abide. Allah's wrath is against him and He has cast His curse upon him, and has prepared for him a great chastisement} [4:93].

Muʿāwīyah is deserving of chastisement by admission of every verse which curses those who resemble him, such as His saying, the Mighty, the Exalted: {The curse of Allah is on the wrongdoers} [11:18]. {Let us sincerely invoke Allāh’s curse upon the liars} [3:61]. {So what message will they believe in after ˹denying˺ Allāh and His revelations?} [45:6].

Those who adhere to him, and defend him are deserving of severe chastisement, by His saying, the Exalted: {You will never find a people who ˹truly˺ believe in Allah and the Last Day loyal to those who defy Allah and His Messenger} [58:22]. {And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is [one] of them} [5:51]. And ((Man will be gathered with whom he loves)).[1]

Therefore, O Seeker, do not be deceived by the clatter of those who are blind in sight, and deaf in hearing.

The praise in the Book of Allāh, the Exalted, and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ was only for the companions who believed in him, and followed the Light which was revealed upon.

Those who did not turn about on their heels, and regress into disbelief {So he who breaks his word only breaks it to the detriment of himself} [48:10].

And the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ has said in the reports of the Lake-fount that only a small herd will be saved from them, and he will say to them: Woe to you, woe to you, those who have altered, and changed!

It is narrated in the Ṣiḥāḥ, and elsewhere, and it is agreed upon, and from Allāh is refuge, and aid sought from disappointment.
