Asalamu Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu

I just wanted to ask, what do Zaydis think of the Fatimid Caliphate, were they good or bad?

Thank you for your time.

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh!

Thank you for your question! I would say that the typical Zaydi attitude towards the Fatimid Caliphate was that of distrust. Zaydi polemical literature is replete with attacks on 'Esotericists (al-Baatiniya)', and the Fatimid caliphs exhibited such doctrine. It should also suffice that the Fatimid caliphs were contemporary of Zaydi imams, so this would also merit that they saw the Fatimids as illegitimate competition.

It should be interesting to note that despite this antagonistic attitude, some Fatimids included the judgements and rulings of Zaydi imams in their works of fiqh. Off the top of my head, I can think of the Daa'im al-Islaam and Kitaab al-Idaah of Qadi Nu'man al-Maghribi.

And Allah knows best!

as salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

@Imam Rassi Society

Brother i dont think that the right word for the relationship between zaydis and fatimids would be distrust. They were clearly enemies, this enmity was in the realm of religion and in the realm of politics. if you look in the books of the aqidaa you will see that the batiniya/ismailiyya are made takfir of by the Ahl al Bayt alayhimus ssalam, and if you look in the history you will see that since the times of imam al hadi alayhi salam there were major conflicts between the illegitimate fatimids and the Ahl al Bayt alayhimussalam, and this fights were true warfare with killing on both sides so i wouldnt say that it was "distrust".

If you want to research it yourself look it up in the books of history especially the times of the sulayhid dynasty in yemen.

wa salam
