Asalamu alaykum dear brothers and sisters

What do the Prophet (salla ALLAHu alayhi wa Aalihi wa sallam)/ Ahlul Bayt (as)/ Respected Scholars say about keeping dogs?

Also, what is the known (if any) ruling for keeping a dog due to medicinal reasons such as helping cure major depression and treating a bad anxiety disorder when no other option seems to work and marriage is extremely difficult in the meantime?

Wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatullahi!

Thank you for your question! I posed your question to one of our ulema and he said that dogs are prohibited to keep except in the case of hunting, pasturing or guarding sheep. This is generally because of the ritual impurity of dogs as well as the possibility of infectious diseases and the like.
