السلام عليكم ورحمة الله

Regarding the visitation of the graves of friends and family are there any books that speak about the recommend acts and Du’as? I tried looking for a book or باب that speaks of such, but when I get to the section on جنائز I only see matters pertaining to burial rights, its rules and regulations.

Is spraying the grave with rose water, or water recommended and is lighting natural incense on the grave a recommended act as well? Will one receive reward, as well as benefit the deceased Muslim, or is spraying water and lighting incense simply Bid’ah.

What are recommended acts to do that will benefit the deceased and is it nonetheless fine to spray the water and light incense, regardless of reward/benefit. Can the kind brothers recommend me any books to read about visiting graves, or books that contain sections that go in depth on this matter - the more detailed the better Insha’Allah - and may your reward be with الله عز وجل.

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

Thank you for your question!

The only recommended acts according to our fiqh is that one greets the deceased and ask for Allah's forgiveness for them. (Ref. Al-Bahr az-Zakhkhaar). As for incense, rose water or anything else, I have not come across anything from the Ahl al-Bayt that encourages this.

And Allah knows best!
