Asaalamu alaikum,
Is the rennet in cheese which is made from animals that are not slaughtered according to Islamic rites considered halal?
JazakhAllah Khairan

wa alaykum as salaam.
Thank you for your question! According to the Ahkaam of imam al-Haadi (as), the cheese of the Ahl al-Kitab is not permissible to eat because they use the stomach lining of an animal not slaughtered according to Islamic law. Hopefully, this answers your question.

Jazakh Allah, yes that answers it. Is this an issue on which there is consensus or do Imam Qassim(as) and Imam Nasr(as) have different rulings?

Thank you for your question! I was not able to find any contrary opinion to what I posted.
On a side note, if you would like to consume cheeses without rennet, they are available. You just have to inquire and/or read labels. Products they say 'vegetable rennet' or something similar are fine. Also, cheeses that are labelled 'kosher' by OU or K symbols are animal free since religious Jews don't consume animals and dairy together. Soft cheeses, like paneer, are also rennet-free.
Hope this helps!
