wa alaikum as salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
akhi'l kareem, thats what Shaykh Muhammad Abdullah Awadh al-Muayyadi, may Allah reward him plenty, said about it:
To the esteemed scholars: Is it permissible to sleep in the mosque if one's house is located in the courtyard/close to the mosque? Please give us a fatwa, may Allah reward you.
Answer:
It is not appropriate to sleep in the mosque if one has a house in its courtyard/close, because mosques were built for worship.
Note: I think the intended meaning is close to the masjeed. not courtyard.
