Correct Steps to Perform Umrah

Salaamu Alaikum!

I am wanting to make Umrah for the first time, and so I have been researching the steps and method to do Umrah, as well as the rules (for example, what makes Ihram) however I am careful to do this in accordance to the teachings of the madhhab of ahlul bayt (AS).  Online, I have been unable to find zaydi resources detailing the rules and methods of making Umrah and I wonder if the zaydi method differs from traditional sunni or shia methods (which are more widely available)

If anyone might be able to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Jazakallah.

wa alaikum as-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

‘Umrah: It is a confirmed Sunnah (recommended practice), and obligatory according to some scholars, based on the verse: “And complete the Hajj and ‘Umrah for Allah” [Al-Baqarah 2:196].

The command to perform it along with Hajj is evidence of its ruling. It is said that this command applies only after entering into Ihram. The Prophet ﷺ said: “To perform ‘Umrah is better for you …”

Its pillars (essential acts) are four: Ihram, Tawaf (circumambulation), Sa’i (walking between Safa and Marwah), and Shaving (or trimming) the hair.
  • Ihram is obligatory.
  • Tawaf refers to the Tawaf of arrival, and its ruling is the same as the Tawaf of Hajj.
As for Sa’i, it is also obligatory. It is like the ritual stoning (Ramy) in that everything becomes permissible afterward except for sexual relations.

Shaving or trimming the hair is like Tawaf al-Ziyarah: it permits sexual relations, and if one leaves it undone and engages in intercourse, one must offer a sacrificial animal according to the madhab, or a sheep according to Al-Hadi.

Shaving is obligatory; if one is bald, the razor is passed over the head.

The Miqat (station of entering Ihram) is the same as for Hajj, except for the people of Mecca. For them, it is their boundary outside the Haram.

If intercourse occurs before performing Sa’i, the ‘Umrah becomes invalid, and one must complete it and make up what was missed.

According to the madhab, performing ‘Umrah during the Hajj months is disliked for those who are not performing Tamattu’ or Qiran, but the correct view is that it is not disliked, based on the Prophet ﷺ performing a compensatory ‘Umrah during the month of Hajj or in the month of Dhu al-Qi’dah.

Performing ‘Umrah in Ramadan carries great merit, and it is reported that it is equivalent to Hajj and Allah knows best.

wa salam
