Taslim, wudhu, leading salah was created by mousa_ms
Hi, i am thinking to convert to zaydi, im originally a twelver. I have a couple of questions regarding taslim. I have read throught the other question and answers and understood that turning the head to the right and left is wajib, while i understand that its found in hadith, thats how the imams (AS) used to do their taslim, is there any hadith where they claim it to be wajib? As both sunni and twelver conclude that the turning of the head isn't obligatory to end the salah. I read somewhere that its a methodology that zaydis have where if the imams (AS) is seen doing something consistently, its deemed as wajib, is that true? Is there difference of opinion regarding it being wajib?
Also, in all the videos and texts i have read aout how to pray, after the tashahud, you guys go straight to giving salams to the right and left, rather then saying "As-salamu ala'n-nabiyyi wa rahmatu'llahi wa barakatuhu. As-salamu alayna wa ala ibadi'llahi'ssalihin" before finsihing the salah, is it not taught by the holy progeny? Would i be allowed to read it if i preferred to do so?
Regarding wudhu, why is the washing of the mouth and nose seen as obligatory when its not mentioned in the verse of wudu in the Holy Quran, again sunni and shia agree that it is apart of the sunnah rather then obligatory, could you help me understand why its obligatory?
Also in wudhu, can i wash my arms from th elbow down like twelvers or do i have to do it from the hands down like sunnis, or does it not matter.
In terms of leading prayer, what are the requirements, is it strict like the shias ot is it laid back like sunnis where any sane male can lead prayer. Would i as a layman be able to lead my friends in jamah?
Would my prayer behind a twelver be accepted or not? I know you made a post where you clarified that they do not wash their feet in slaah therefore they are not ritually pure to lead prayer and are insufficient, but is there a difference of opinion on this or concencus that its not valid? I know zaydi pray behind sunnis but does it have to be specifically hanafis or can it be behind any sunni who washes their feet? A lot of the times in university, when walking into the prayer room, someone random walks in with me they offer to lead, so would I have to claridy if they are hanafi?
When reading in jamah, do i stay silent and the imams recitation is sufficeint or do i have to read it myself regardless, if so do i have to read all parts of the salah including the 2 surahs standing up or just the ruku, sajda, tahsahud and talsim and the tasbehh of the 3rd and 4th rakaat.
Sorry for the long length of questions, i just want clarity before making a decision, your help would be highly appreciated.
Jazakallah

Salam Alaikum,
May Allah open your heart towards Zaydiyyah and make you steadfast on the Quran, Sunnah and Ahlul Bayt.
1.Imam an-Nasir (as) said in his Al-Kabeer: "All of the descendants of Allah's Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny, relate that the tasleem is to be recited twice--once to the right and then the left in the congregational prayer. If one is alone one recites the tasleem to the right and left intending the Angels to the right and left."
It says in Al-Muntakhab: "The prayer is not completed except by means of the two salutations. There is no prayer except with the two salutations."
Furthermore, the reciting of one tasleem can be included among the Umayyad innovations. Imam Muhammad ash-Shaybani, one of the great Hanafi jurists related that Ibrahim an-Nakha'i said: "The first to reduce...the final salutations was Mu'awiya b. Abi Sufyaan."
We therefore say that the one tasleem is deficient and invalid as well as unacceptable.
2. Regarding saying "As-salamu ala'n-nabiyyi wa rahmatu'llahi wa barakatuhu. As-salamu alayna wa ala ibadi'llahi'ssalihin"
According to the Zaydis it is "Assalamu alayka ayuhan nabi wa rahmatulahi wa barakatuhu assalamu alayna wa ala ibadilahi'sahleen". However, unlike the Sunnis, it is said after the Salaat al-Ibrahimiyya. That is, after one recites "...Hamiid Majiid..." one says "As salaamu alayk ayyuha an-Nabi..." (Ref. Al-Bahr az-Zakhkhaar, Sharh al-Azhaar and Al-Intisaar).
3. Regarding why Rinsing the mouth and cleaning the nose is Obligatory, here is the explanation of Imam Al Hadi peace be upon him :
He said: It is an obligation explicitly stated by Allāh in His Book.
He said: In His saying, the Blessed and Exalted: {So wash your faces} [al-Mā'idah: 6], and the nose and mouth are part of the face. The consensus of the scholars of the household of Muḥammad, peace be upon them all, supports what we mentioned. They unanimously agree that if someone in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) performs the ritual bath (ghusl) without rinsing their mouth and nose, their prayer is not valid. This consensus indicates that rinsing and sniffing are obligatory.
As for those who claim that they are merely recommended based on the Prophet's practice, they are incorrect.
These actions are part of the Sunnah revealed by Allāh in His book, taught to us by His Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, and not an invention of Muḥammad, peace be upon him and his family, as ignorant people claim regarding the meanings of Sunnah; attributing it to Muḥammad, peace be upon him and his family, as opposed to Allāh.
Ref : Al-Muntakhab
4. It has been narrated from Sayyid Imam Naasir al-Utruush (as) that it is impermissible to wash the arms from the elbow to the fingers (Ref. Masaa´il an-Naasiraat). However, the commentator--Sayyid Allama Badrudeen al-Houthi --said regarding this: "I could not find this from an-Naasir (as); the Hadawi madhhab permits both (i.e. washing from hands to elbows & elbows to hands)."
Sayyid Imam 'Abdullah b. Hamza (as) in Al-Muhadhdhab that the man is to begin from the hands to the elbows and the woman is to begin from the elbows to the hands. However, he did not quote a source.
5.There is no problem to pray behind any Muslim who is a slave, a child of fornication, blind, or a Bedouin; just as long as they know what is necessary for the prayer. There is no problem for a free person to pray behind a bounded person (as long as he is complete in the requirements).
The clothed person does not pray behind the naked person, the standing person behind the sitting, the person who has made ablution behind the person who has made purification by earth (tayammum), the one who is performing the obligatory prayers behind the person who is performing the voluntary prayers, nor a man behind a woman or child.
It is not permissible for the imam to be an openly disobedient person (al-fāsiq). Al-Qāsim, upon him be peace, said: "One who has missed a prayer does not lead the prayer."
6. As for praying behind a Twelver, you would have to refer your question to a mufti who can better answer your question. Maybe contact the brothers at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
7. it is generally permissible to pray behind Sunnis.
8. There is no problem if the follower recites behind the imam if he cannot hear him; however, if he can hear him, he doesn't recite. Hence, one has to recite for himself in the silent Rakahs and prayers and you must also recite the Dhikr and other parts of the Salah by yourself.
May Allah open your heart towards Zaydiyyah and make you steadfast on the Quran, Sunnah and Ahlul Bayt.
