Fatwa : Reciting Quran from a phone in Nawafil

Q : Is it permissible to recite the Quran in the supererogatory (optional) prayer from a phone or from the Mushaf (physical Quran)?

A :  It is permissible in Nawafil prayers, not permissible in others (obligatory prayers). - Al-Allamah Muhammad Abdullah Awad Al-Muayyidi

هل يجوز قراءة القرآن في الصلاة النافلة من التلفون أو من المصحف؟

 الجواب:
يصح في النوافل ما لا يصح في غيرها



 

What about one who has not memorized fatihah or another surah yet and needs to look from the mushaf or phone to recite it during obligatory prayers?

That would be allowed but he must actively engage in learning the Fatiha and at least a small easy Surah.

And once he has learned these 2 Surahs he must stop using the Mobile.
