Fatwa : Women visiting graves

Q : Is it permissible for a woman to visit graves, and is it permissible for her to mix closely with men?

A : As for visiting graves, we see no objection, due to the general evidences permitting visitation, and because it has been narrated that Fatimah (peace be upon her) used to visit the grave of her uncle Hamzah (may Allah have mercy on him).

As for women crowding or jostling with men: visitation is recommended, and a recommended act does not permit committing something prohibited. Such behavior is done only by those lacking modesty, to the extent that people of piety and caution refrained from touching the Corner (of the Ka‘bah) during tawaf because of it.
