Fatwa :The Ruling on Seeking Forgiveness for Believing Men and Women

Q : Is seeking forgiveness obligatory for believing men and women?

A : Seeking forgiveness is obligatory:

     1. For oneself :  It is a duty upon the accountable person to seek forgiveness for himself
     2. For the parents : Due to their right over the child: ["My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was]              small" (17:24)
     3. For the deceased Muslim :  When praying the funeral prayer over them.
