Qira'at Among Zaydi Muslims Worldwide

As salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah, as far as i know the situation was not always that the qiraat of hafs was this dominant in the muslim world. In pre-modern times there were many regions which prefered other qiraat. the best explanation for the dominance of hafs is that when the printing technology came to the arab world the mushaf was printed and distributed by the ottoman and egyptian authorities (and they prefered hafs) and so the quran became more easily available and thus all the people adopted it (the printing with the hafs qiraat) everywhere.

As for a what the ahl al bayt alayhim salam prefered the brother explained it well.

I would add that there is a reading of al-Imam Zayd Ibn Ali alayhi salam, which is counted from the shaz (odd, not well transmitted) qiraat, so there are remnants of other readings but unforunately they didnt reach us with tawatur.
