salaam alaykum
What is the Zaidi view on Intercession, 'Ya Ali Madad', and 'labayka ya hussein'? I was initially attracted to Shia Islam due to the overwhelming evidence of Ali ibn Abu Talib (as) being designated as Khalifa by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). After studying the Ithna Ashari I was really pushed away by their views on the above mentioned things, surely there is another view, less extreme than Ithna Ashari. (No Offense to Ithna Ashari at all, to each person is his/her own belief)
salaam
wa alaykum as salaam.
Thank you for your question.
I have never read or heard any of these phrases from any of our imams (as), scholars or texts. If one were to say 'Ya Ali madad' and intend Allah (as al-Ali is one of Allah's attributes) then there is no problem.
As far as I know 'Labayk Ya Hussein' is more symbolic than theological. A person is saying that they are in Hussein's (as) service in the sense that he will always remember him and would fight for the Imam if called.
Translations of Zaydi works can be found on this webpage and our scribd page www.scribd.com/imamrassisociety

assalamu Alaykum
What does the Zaydia madhab say regarding Tawassul and intercession? and also saying ''Ya Ali'' etc..
Shukran
wa alaykum as salaam!
Thanks for your question!
As for Tawassul, it is perfectly permitted in the Shariah. Allama Majideen al-Mu'ayyadi (May Allah reward him) said in his Tuhf ash-Sharh az-Zalaf:
As for tawassul, sufficient proof is the statement of Allah in His Revelation to His Messenger: {If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto thee and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful} (Q. 4:64) and {But some of the desert Arabs believe in Allah and the Last Day, and look on their payments as pious gifts bringing them nearer to Allah and obtaining the prayers of the Messenger. Aye, indeed they bring them nearer (to Him): soon will Allah admit them to His Mercy: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful} (Q. 9:99) and {and pray on their behalf. Verily thy prayers are a source of security for them} (Q. 9:103).
As for intercession, according to Zaidis it is restricted to the righteous believers on the Day of Judgment. Major sinners will not receive intercession from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny.
As for "Yaa 'Ali," it is perfectly permissible if Allah is meant because one of Allah's names is al-Ali. So "Yaa Ali madad" can be said if you intend by "Yaa Ali..." Yaa Allah! We do not have from any of our imams that anyone addresses Ameer al-Mumineen (as) when one says this.
