Washing ones private parts after removing impurities is still required before starting the Wudhoo.

This is Unique to the Zaydi Madhab.

I havent come across the obligation of being covered during Wudhoo

JZK for the reply, I don't mean any disrespect just trying to understand, is it not a form of innovation to say this is a required step of wudhu when the Quran clearly states four parts to clean without mentioning the openings? I understand impurities must be removed in order to pray and it makes sense for it to be considered a recommended step for ablution but I'm confused about the justification for treating it as obligatory.

No, this is not a form of innovation (bid‘ah). Your usage of “innovation” does not correspond to the technical concept as used in fiqh. There are numerous proofs that the Imams and the Companions washed their private parts. The only point of discussion, and where the School of Imam al-Hadi ila al-Haqq Yahya (alayhi as-salam) differs from other schools, is that this school considers istinja (washing the private parts) an obligatory act of wudu.

Thus, there is no actual disagreement about it being part of Shariah; the divergence concerns only the ruling.Rulings are issued by a mujtahid based on his knowledge of the Qur’an, the Sunnah, the practice of the Companions and the Ahl al-Bayt, and the proper use of the Arabic language. Therefore, it is not correct to label this as an innovation, even if it were a mistaken position.

This is the ruling of Imam Yahya (alayhi as-salam), but it does not mean that it is the only view among the Zaydis. Some other Imams (alayhim as-salam) did not count istinja among the obligatory acts of wudu.

Indeed, Imam Majd al-Din al-Muayyadi (alayhi as-salam) even suggested that much of this is a misunderstanding, and that Imam Yahya’s actual opinion has been misrepresented by later authors.

Nevertheless, this ruling represents the official position in the main fiqh book of our school, al-Azhar, and it is therefore taught as the primary position of the school.
